Why can't I DM?

The reasons for restricting DMs in Session Communities are:

We know that users exploit DMs in Communities to advertise illicit content such as non-consensual images, sharing them in DMs or in private groups.

But nobody can ban a private group or a user from Session.

The best Communities can do is to avoid becoming a hub for abuse. To do that, Communities should:

Just deal with it?

Why can't you just block the DMs and move on? Session is for seasoned internet users.

You could do that. But then you should get used to hearing this:

Session? Sounds sus, like an app for p*dophiles.

Session markets to everyone. And inexperienced users will be put off and leave.

They'll use WhatsApp instead.

Do you want the whole world using WhatsApp? Having to use WhatsApp for work and family?

Australian feds once visited a Session employee's apartment. And politicians around the world are threatening to pass encryption backdoor laws to "protect the children". Do you want the public agreeing with them?

I don't think you do.

And if you want to spread privacy, you need to make Session work for everyone.
